Mere months after giving the initial go-ahead, President Obama seems to have had second thoughts:

Obama pulls plug on new Arctic oil drilling

Good decision. Everybody makes mistakes, and it's good to see Obama come around.

Yeah, it's not like it even makes much sense to do it at this stage. GOP stuck in the past as usual.

Didn't even realize someone was trying to do this at these prices.  Is this an issue?

Yeah.  Shell walking away had nothing to do what environmental activists were doing but was all about poor drilling results at low oil prices.  Until oil geologists can figure out why their estimates were off, I doubt anyone will be interested in Arctic oil leases.

Another terrible decision by a terrible administration.  They would rather us buy oil from regimes that hate us than become truly energy independent.

Is he just doing this because Shell didn't find much oil and oil is cheap? Well, I guess we'll take what we can get get in maybe sort of victories.

Did you even read the article? It specifically says that there wasn't much interest in Arctic oil anyway.

At current prices.  That's not a reason to stop leases in the future and void lease renewals.

We should drill until the U.S. drills more oil than we use.  And then drill some more to make countries dependent on us, instead of the other way around.

This is just Obama grabbing a baton, running out in front, and pretending he's leading  a parade. Once Shell pulled out, Arctic drilling was dead for the immediate future, so now Obama is trying to wring what little political hay he can from it.

This sounds all well and good in your mind, but in reality makes no sense and is incredibly stupid.
