Hillary will have an absolute temper tantrum if Johnson meets the 15% threshold to be on stage.

I imagine it'll end up being like it was in 1980. Reagan would only debate with Anderson, Carter would only debate without Anderson. Trump will only debate with Johnson, Hillary will only debate without Johnson. Trump can't handle a 1-on-1 debate, Hillary needs it.

Didn't that end with Reagan and Anderson debating without Carter? That would be a disaster for Trump since Johnson can plausibly attack Trump from both the right and from the left, and people would realize some third party asterisk candidate looked more presidential than the Republican nominee.

Whatever happens, a Hillary-versus-Johnson debate would probably be the most boring thing ever and viewership would plummet. It would basically be Hillary giving a monologue about Trump's hate speech and "standing up to Wall Street" and occasionally gesturing to Johnson and being like, "Who did you say you were, again?" The foreign policy portion of the debate would get really weird really fast as you had the Democratic nominee sounding more like a Republican than the former Republican governor standing on stage with her.

Johnson debating either of them one on one means he could attack them both from the right or left.

You don't get to add bias to RL. Sorry.

This will be interesting to watch. The more Johnson has airtime, the more people will have a 3rd alternative to Trump and Clinton.

Unfortunately the more he has  the more people realise he's GARY JOHNSON

Is there any scenario under which Trump pushes for Johnson to be included in a debate (or maybe both Johnson and Stein)?  Will he want to avoid a one-on-one with Clinton, or will he relish it?  Or maybe he just starts throwing up random demands for the debates to create confusion, and one of them involves the participation of third party candidates?

If he does, he's an absolute moron, as Johnson will peel more votes away from him than Clinton.

I would probably never vote for Johnson but I'm glad to hear this news because I think his ideas deserve to be heard and would add to the national discussion.
While that's certainly the conventional wisdom, polls that include Johnson show he actually draws more from Clinton.

Why? He'd draw more from Trump and the two could tag team the Donald.
Not necessary true. John Anderson was expected to damage Reagan but ended up attracting more support from former Kennedy supporters. I think Johnson, like Perot, will end up doing damage to both candidates seeing how divided both parties are.

Four years ago, had Johnson somehow managed to reach these poll levels, he'd certainly only hurt Romney. But this election is one for the history books, not the relative snoozefest that '12 was.

Well, if one candidate wins, it'll certainly be one for the history books - provided there'll still be a "history" in 15 years.

Those are probably Republicans who hate Trump so much they'd choose Hillary over him but would rather vote third-party.
