How can anyone actually believe this guy has a chance at winning?

Bernie Sanders is a socialist, he wants America to be more like Europe. Additionally, he has written some disgusting essays in the 1970s.

I hope Democrats nominate him so Republicans can win and restore this economy and our standing in the world.

I support Hillary, but let me poke just a few holes in your augments.

Now a tax increase on the American people, that's going to far.  It is limiting the most dangerous chemicals going into our atmosphere.  Chemicals which are know to kill.  How is that bad.  And it could be worse, at least it's not carbon taxes.

What is wrong with wanting to get big money out of politics.  Look what is has done to us over the past 4 years, we've gone to sh**t.

The man wants to help the planet, so he hates America.  That's ludicrous.  All he is asking for is what I said above, he wants to limit the amount of harm bringing chemicals which are being pumped into our atmosphere by cars, nothing more.

He changed his position on something over 8 years, wow, much flipflop there.  Almost Every ing politician in the country has changed positions over the past 8 years, including the two you mentioned above.  That is at most grasping straws for an argument.  And going to his position, we need action on immigration, and if congress won't do it, the President has too.

What's so wrong about government-run health care.  Look at Scandinavia, they have massive welfare states, and they have some of the highest standard of living, Literacy, and lifespan.  It can work if is done in the right way.

Finally, if he is the Democratic nominee, he could win, he has a greater chance at losing, but misinterpreting his postions is sad, and you only do it because you know that they will resonate with the American people.

Rant over.

The McGovern comparisons scare me a lot considering that he was far more talented politician than Bernie Sanders could ever dream of being. If the Republicans can paint him like a Mcgovern type the map would probably be as bad as the OP in the Sanders vs. Bush thread suggested.

I think that Bernie Sanders's absolute floor is above what McGovern or Mondale got. I'd say DC, VT, MA, RI, HI, and ME-1, which I believe would be 25 electoral votes. I suspect that Sanders would do better than that. I also don't think that he would pick a crappy running mate.

I'm also not quite sure of what made McGovern so "talented." A lot of his success in the primaries is because he was part of the McGovern-Fraser committee to change how the primaries worked after the 1968 debacle for the Democrats. Not vetting his VP seems pretty bad.

Sanders has won as an independent at least 10-15 times over the last 35 years. Plus, Vermont hasn't always been as liberal is it is today.
