Former New York Governor Thomas Dewey returns from beyond the grave to mount a fourth bid for the Presidency. He wins his party's nomination and faces former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the general election.

Which of these inevitable contenders emerges triumphant? Discuss with maps.

In such a scenario, a third party would emerge. Tea-Party Republicans would never support a person like Dewey, who was moderate-progressive governor in New York (social welfare programs, minimum wage, anti-discrimination laws).
This would give Hillary the White House: Hillary receives most of the liberal-progressive vote and some moderates; Dewey gets most of the moderate vote (maybe some moderate-conservatives too), with the Tea-Party only receiving the far-right vote.

Yes, I agree that Dewey would be unpopular with the Republican voting base today. I couldn't image him winning against Hilliary Clinton if it was a one-on-one general election.

Have to agree with the above two posters. Dewey unfortunately would be unrecognizable as a Republican to much of today's GOPers.

I'd vote for Dewey though.

Dewey would be good enough on social issues for them. He mostly governed as a neoliberal in economics, and he isn't far away from, say, Kasich or Bush on economics.

I think if he chose a respected Republican like Ayotte or Susan Collins, he could convince them to vote for him. He was a very earnest if not very energizing campaigner, and he also did well in governing.

I'd like to say Dewey-Kasich wins, and gains some usually Democratic states up North while Clinton goes populist for the South. Most likely, it depends on his debate skills.
