Obvious HP. But if I had to take a side in the English Civil War, it'd have to be with the Cavaliers, because Cromwell was even worse.

Considering I'd have an enthusiastic Leveller, guess.

I probably would have naively sided with the Roundheads, hoping for some sort of English Republic, and then been sorely disappointed when Cromwell took over. In the long run, it was probably better that Charles lost, seeing as his defeat contributed to the weakening of the monarchy.

As evidenced by his ramped-up use of the Star Chamber to enforce his whims and "get" people, he's at or near the very bottom along with Mary Tudor. HP.

I probably would have been a Leveller too. Minimally a Parliamentarian.

And yeah, got what was coming to him.

Say what you will about King Charles, but I'd take his old-fashioned despotism over the distressingly modern authoritarians that followed him.

Charles Stuart's particular style of despotism was not old fashioned (that was half the problem with the man) and the Commonwealth that followed had, despite some undeniable faults, little in common with modern authoritarian regimes. Probably its most unpopular policy was its general toleration of minority groups (Catholics excepted) including Jews and the sort of radical Protestants that even most radical Protestants considered to be heretical.

FF in context of the Roundheads being pure evil and James I being stark-raving power hungry before him.

Just by the default of being neither he's an FF.

HP as my ancestor was in charge of executing him and his brother hanged, drew, and quartered him so that makes him an even bigger HP.

Despots are HPs, even if removing them from power means installing worse HPs in their place.
