Although I didn't support Senator McCain in 2008, I had immense respect for his character and his moderate brand of politics in 2008. Since then, my respect for him has plummeted. His shameless attention whoring on issues like DADT, along with his disturbing war mongering in every single foreign policy crisis we encounter, have changed my opinion of him for the worse.

It's way down from where it was in 2000 when I was seriously considering supporting him.

I greatly disliked him in 2008, and more so in 2010 when he ran to the right to beat Hayworth. I started to warm up to him some in 2013 when he was part of the senate immigration bill, but with that fading in importance I have gone back to greatly disliking him.

I was an enthusiastic supporter in 2008, but he is no longer even in my top 10, probably 20 Senators at the moment in all likelihood for similar reasons to the OP. Waffling on TARP weeks before the election was annoying too.

I didn't like him in 2008, and I like him even less now that his red faced war mongering is a regular installment on Sunday morning news broadcasts.

I didn't have an opinion in 2008, so yeah I guess they've changed.

He seemed like a worthy opponent...then he picked Sarah Palin, and it only got worse and worse.

With his tantrum to Obama to "stop throwing a tantrum", and his participation in that 47 Senators Letter to Iran lunacy, that's the nail in the coffin.

I was barely political in 2008; McCain=Republican=bad was essentially my thought process. I guess I'd say my opinion's improved as I've learned more about him besides his party ID.

I respect him more because of the rise of the Tea Party movement that is destroying my party.  I wish more than ever that he'd won in 2008.

I never respected him much, and he constantly reminds me why.

My feelings of him in 2008 were colored by my inexperience in politics. He was running against Obama so I disliked him. Then around 2011 I read Game Chaneg and saw how troubled he was by the rancor Palin inspired in his base and his speech ripping the Tea Party on the Senate Floor made me develop great respect for him. And in late 2012-early 2013 when it seemed he'd gotten over his butthurt loss to obama and was gonna work with him in the Senate my opinion only rose. Then he started talking foreign policy and now have as much respect for him as I do Bush, which is marginally higher than the average Republican.

I was too young in 2008 to grasp how absolutely nuts his foreign policy views were and are. At the time he just seemed like a nice old fellow.

I lost all respect for him a long time ago.
