I discussed this in the election results thread earlier and thought I'd give it a shot.

Let's say Gore managed to make a complete southern sweep (Jackson isn't as effective for one thing,) and knocks of Dukakis. Many want him to pick Dukakis as his VP but Gore does something unlikely and picks charismatic Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton who is much more charismatic than Gore. Both make a young and mainly southern Democratic ticket.

Bush wins like in RL but instead of picking Quayle heads for a more moderate direction and picks Congressman Jack Kemp of NY.

Discuss with maps.

I didn't give Bush any Dukakis states, but gave Gore a few Bush states. I still don't think Bush would win NY..Kemp hadn't won statewide. I could be convinced to give CA to Gore, but even then, Bush would have won by a slightly bigger margin than his son got in '04.

A Kemp/Clinton debate would have been pretty epic.

Bush loses, he only won because of Willie Horton the first time, and Gore does not have that on him and he'd have Clinton as an excellent attack dog.

No, Gore would definitely take California by a very good margin, probably take Ohio and Missouri, and with the farm crisis probably the Dakotas and Montana too.

Al Gore was actually pretty charismatic and great on the trail in his younger days, so her beat Bush by a pretty healthy total.
