The Republican nominee is not going to pick someone who's socially slightly left-leaning. Not in 2016, at least.

When was the last time the VP was a Popular Governor™?

Why would a Popular Governor™ resign his job where he does things to take a job where he does nothing?

Technically, Palin was a popular Governor.

Baker seems unlikely to be chosen.

He doesn't have particular appeal to any group. Other Governors are more experienced, and may help more in major swing states. And he's unlikely to stay popular when he becomes a partisan attack dog on a national ticket.

For Baker to be seriously considered for the ticket, he'd have to emerge as an effective national surrogate for the party.

(Normal)

Not to mention Baker probably wants to be governor for a while anyways building a "non-partisan" image.

He has as much chance as being selected for the Veep job as Hillary has of suddenly changing her dishonest ways and coming clean over the Clinton Foundation foreign money affair & other questionable activities😊

Having high approvals as Governor in a state dominated by opposite party doesn't necessarily make you a formidable contender for national office. Otherwise we'd have Bill Weld or Dave Freudenthal as President or Vice President Tongue

Sanity is always a nice addition, but that probably won't go over well with the base.

"The base will revolt" meme is always overrated, but a pro-choice VP is one thing I think could legitimately cause it to happen.
