I have recently seen a report somewhere (don't remember exactly where, probably on ARTE) that extremists try to import heavy weapons (such as AK-47s, hand grenades and rocket launchers as well as explosives through Southern European ports with lax security and oversight such as Marseille (with the weapons mostly from the Balkans or North Africa) and then try to transport these weapons to the terror cells in the various countries, such as Belgium, Germany, Austria etc. and then start their attacks there.

Transporting the weapons is of course much easier these days than pre-Schengen, because you simply need to put them into the trunk of your car and drive to let's say Vienna and also because the border agents only check a handful of cars anymore.
