I'm not going to vote in favour of tabling because this topic is being actively debated and there is no real issue with bills not getting to the floor.

That said, I'm very unlikely to vote for this, for 3 reasons:

1. I think these types of social issues should be regional issues.

2.I'm not going to vote for anything that lowers the age of consent to 14.

3.I can't help but feel that freedom is very often a zero sum game. By exercising my freedom to shout fire in a theatre I'm disrupting your freedom to enjoy a play, by exercising my right to freely insult your sexuality I'm disrupting your freedom to not be verbally assaulted. These are very complex issues where we can't just take the view that every individual should have as much choice as possible, or that every individual should have the right not to offended, come what may. It has to be a judgement call.

Just wanted to step in and state that I am certainly not signing this bill if passed (as unlikely as that would be). Lowering the age of consent to 14 (among other things this Act proposes) is a very good example of those insanely unrealistic attempts at policy that can only make the game worse, not to mention the immediate consecuences that would follow this being made into law.

I don't support tabling this - but let it rise and fall on its own merits.

FTR, I am unlikely to support this Bill.

Well this has next to no chance of passing, so let's get this over with. I motion for a final vote.

This has enough votes to fail, senators have 24 hours to change their votes
