WHO-HD Channel 13, Des Moines’ NBC Affiliate, invited Iowa State Fair visitors to “Cast Your Kernel” for Senate. Each person who stopped was given one kernel of corn to place in the Mason jar of his or her favorite candidate.

2014 Partial Results (updated at 15/8).

Ernst (R) 59%
Braley (D) 41%

Obviously this isn't a scientific poll, but we can get something from these results, thank to the past results of this poll.

2008 Corn Kernel Poll Results

Obama (D) 51%
McCain (R) 49%

2008 Results

Obama (D) 54% (+ 3% compared to Corn Kernel Poll)
McCain (R) 45% (- 4%)

2010 Corn Kernel Poll Results

Branstad (R) 70%
Culver (D) 30%

2008 Results

Branstad (R) 53% (- 17%)
Culver (D) 43% (+ 13%)

2012 Corn Kernel Poll Results

Romney (R) 55%
Obama (D) 45%

2008 Results

Obama (D) 52% (+ 7%)
McCain (R) 46% (- 9%)

Average of differences:

D candidate: + 7,7%
R candidate: - 10%

2014 Results

Ernst (R) 59% - 10% = 49%
Braley (D) 41% + 7,7% = 48,7%

Yes... Iowa is a close race.

People who vote via a kernel are more likely to be Conservative.

Yeah, but Iowa has a large percentage of liberals who, demographically speaking, one would predict to be quite conservative.
