I can see Russia and China joining into an alliance, but it's hard to see India allied with China.

Military alliance is not going to happen, for the reasons mentioned.

Economic alliance is more likely, see for example: Brics to open alternatives to World Bank, IMF

India doesn't really care about playing the global politics game, they're just concerned with their defense, trade, and countries that once used to be considered part of India (like Pakistan).

LOL, India and China won't ally with each other.

In 1972, things were kind of unstable in the region with the two alliances of USSR, India, and Bangladesh vs. USA, China, and Pakistan.
