This person is a white male from Weston, Massachusetts. He is 31 years of age and is married with one child and another on on the way. He sits on the board of directors of his grandfather's light bulb company in Boston, a successful, multi-million dollar company started in 1958, which is the main source of his family's income. His wife does not have a job and he spends most of his time at home, as most of what work he has to do can be done from there. Their household income is $350,000/year. He attended Harvard out of high school before becoming a member of the BoD for the company and received an undergraduate degree in Business. His family has a long history at Harvard and is big donors to the university. Going back to his grandfather, the family has had a passion for innovation and education, reflective in their business dealings. The family is of Methodist religion, but the individual in question and his family do not practice although do not identify as atheists either (largely apathetic). He lives in a very large home in Weston, not far from the rest of his family, all of which own homes in Weston. The entirety of the family "summers" on Martha's Vinyard in the large home that is owned by the grandfather, now 91 years of age.

Here is the individual in question. How do they vote? Highlight the text below to reveal what I think, but I'd prefer you respond first.

These types of people are obviously a small demographic, but one that I have been fascinated with for a long time. I think that the person described is likely a self-identified Democrat with varying positions on specific issues. He is likely opposed to large minimum wage increases and tight business regulations as he believes they represent a net hurt on the poor. He is very progressive on social spending. He supports a universal health care system, increased spending on food stamps, and is very defensive of welfare programs as a means of making a "fair society" without burdensome regulation. He is also very strongly in favor of same-sex marriage and abortion rights. He abhors climate deniers and supports stricter environmental regulations on businesses than other types of regulations because there is no way that a safety net can save the environment. He considers himself an intellectual and strongly dislikes the anti-intellectualism of the GOP. He has never voted Republican for President in his life and it is rare in other elections as well, although he kind of likes Scott Brown. He and the rest of his family have a history of big political donations to liberal candidates stretching all the way back to the civil rights era. They consider themselves a part of the northeastern elite and look down upon southerners while seeing southern elites as immoral people who want to take advantage of the poor and minorities to prove that they are elites.

He lives in Massachusetts, so Republican. If suddenly transplanted somewhere else he'd probably vote Dem, but as it is he's probably content with Scott Brown or whoever.

Sounds like a staunch moderate Republican to me. This being said, if this man moved to Kansas, for example, he'd vote against Sam Brownback.

The grandfather dominates family culture, and, according to his age, he's probably an old blue-blood progressive Republican who hangs out with HW Bush. The family frequently entertains the idea of voting Democrat, but Democrats have a war on lightbulbs, which doesn't suit the family's free-market leanings.

The grandson almost bought a new Chevrolet Silverado for no particular reason when Scott Brown was elected.

A social liberal, fiscal conservative from Massachusetts. Moderate New England Republican, so votes Republican in local/statewide elections and Democratic in national elections. Strong hatred for tea party.

I think people overestimate how much rich people, especially in the northeast, vote Republican post-2000. From the ones I have met, they would rather vote for someone who may raise their taxes than someone who is anti-intellectual, racist, homophobic, anti-science, and populist. Especially when Obama is running and the masses of Tea Partiers are on the move. They'll take Obama because he seems smarter and makes them feel more elitist. They really like talking through their noses about the Tea Party.

The numbers confirm. The rich vote in New England is largely split down the middle.
