I'm two years older than you and still have three years to go before I can buy booze. I can vote, kill myself with ciggarettes (which I admit I enjoy), join the army, and drive a car but I can't drink. #ThanksObama.

It's not like anyone would bother to check your age anyway, unless Austria is much stricter with the 16 age limit than here.

Oh, und alles Gute nachträglich Smiley

Nope, it's not: I remember when we as 14/15-year olds were quite drunk at the local Seefest/Dorffest back then. (In recent years, organizers have upped their checks severely though).

It's still not Smiley I easily got alcohol when I was 15, including the stuff you would only get with 18, and I even look quite young for my age. It's usually stricter at the beginning, but after a certain time no one bothers anymore.

Yes I know Austrians who got drunk at 12 (although one obtained alcohol through theft of a supermarket) so the culture isn't strict in this respect.

No we aren't. I can count on one hand the times I've witnessed an age control here.

That must be our (sometimes common) mentality Wink
