So here's the sitch.  I tend to have a tough time motivating myself to get to the gym on a regular basis.  I'll get out there one day, and then resign myself to pushups and sometimes situps semi-daily for the next 2 weeks or so.  Then go to the gym one day... rinse and repeat.

I think I have this problem because I'm in relatively good shape.  I'm fine with the amount of women that find me attractive, I can easily bench my own weight, I'm 5'9" and ~155 lbs, and on my latest Navy Physical Fitness Assessment I did 75 pushups (needed 34) 70 situps (needed 43) and ran my 1.5 mile in 10:30 (needed 14:00).  So a lot of times I find myself going into this trap of "Well, do I REALLY need to go when I can just use my down time to chill?"  Howe'ver, every time I do this I see my confidence go down, I just don't feel as good, and I kind of lose that motivation in other aspects of my life.

What I'm really trying to do is find a way to take that motivation I get every 2-3 weeks and get it to the point where it is a habit.  Any helpful advice from the Atlas?

Have you considered working out at home?  I've heard good things about the fairly new T25 program.

Yea I've thought about it, but there's a free gym always within walking distance to me so that's not the issue.

I would suggest finding a buddy that's in the same situation so you can motivate each other.

A new routine that changes things up and improves upon what you've already built may help. I was in good shape but did the Insane Like Bane (http://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/insane-like-bane-training-program) workout for eight weeks last summer and saw big gains. Strong workouts that switch up your normal routine can be motivating because you see visible improvement over what you've already built.

I went from 173 lbs to 190 in two months with that workout.

Not at all looking for that.  Being "big" wouldn't suit me.  Just looking to maintain motivation.  Perhaps apply that principle to getting a bit more cut?

I have no motivation to give.. I say just do it. I've lost over 50lbs in the past 6 months by just going to the gym. Of course, my situation is different from others on why I started going to the gym
