Obama received only 35% of the white male vote in 2012. Would Hillary improve on that in 2016 or not?

Possibly improve on Obama 2012, but I doubt that she would do better than Obama 2008.

Odds are she'll do worse.

There are a few main reasons aside from sexism on the part of Obama voting white men.

Due to Obama'a superior political talent, the favorable political environment in 2012 (Incumbent running for reelection after showing leadership in Sandy, an improving economy, etc) and the historic tendency for parties to lose votes the longer they're in the White House, I think Hillary should be expected to do worse than Obama. And that'll correspond to her doing worse among most groups of voters, not just white men.

She may do better but I don't see her breaking 40%.

I think that she will do worse with white men. Hillary Clinton does not seem to be the kind of candidate who could identify with men. This might be counteracted by a boost in performance with white women, but I would not count on that just yet, because women have demonstrated that they don't vote strictly based on the gender of the candidate. It seems like people expect the candidate from the President's party to do well in the next election for most of the President's second term, despite approval ratings or the state of the nation that indicate otherwise, and that conditions fall apart for the incumbent party in the year or so before the election, as the candidates from the incumbent party are finally dragged down by the President. This seemed to happen in 1960, 1968, 2000, and 2008.

It is a feat to have one party win election to the Presidency three terms in a row, and if Clinton does not win the Obama's 2012 percentage of the vote or greater in 2016, then the slide in her support relative to Obama will likely be attributed to whites in general, as minorities are generally very difficult for Republicans to win.

Better. Obviously there are other factors at play, but there is more racism from White men against Obama than sexism against Clinton.

About the same, but she'll do much better among white women.
