At this juncture? Absolutely not. Income inequality increases with every waking moment, the wealthy continue to become obscenely more wealthy and have a tighter hold on government, the world's major powers edge closer toward a new Cold War, and the state/private sector blurring continues unabated. At the end of the day I'd like to say I am an optimist (because I believe that working people will overthrow all those parasites and give them what they deserve), but at this point in history the only people that the world is getting better for are the leeches and parasites that need to be done away with; the vast majority of humankind is living in quite the dystopia.

My only objection to what TNF said is that living standards are objectively improving in much of the developing world, though that's only in the sense that toiling in sweatshops is technically an improvement over an agrarian society at the total mercy of the weather and climate. The developed world is clearly not seeing improvement, though.

Of course this is true. Living standards are improving (as a result of the development of capitalism in these nations) in the developing world. I could go into a big wall of text about dialectics here, but I'll spare everyone. Tongue

The expansion of civil liberties, democracy, and capitalism is continually ongoing.  So...yeah

Civics and economic material have been improving for centuries. Culture and community seem to be headed in the other direction.

Sure HIV/AIDS is a huge problem in the south, the border between Islamic Africa and non-Islamic Africa has issues and the states with the most people seem to all have some pretty serious issues, but for the most part Africa is heading in the right direction over all.

No, due to climate change. Certain aspects are getting better though.
