In early 1991, Democrats controlled seven out of eleven of the most regional and/or cultural "Southern" states; Republicans held the governorships of NC, SC, LA & AL.

By early 2003, the tables had turned. Democrats only held four governorships (NC, MS, OK & TN), while Republicans held seven.

Following the 2012 elections and the fall of North Carolina's gubernatorial seat to the Republicans, only one Southern Democratic governor remained: Mike Beebe (AR).

This GIF tells that story. As you can tell by the time-scale in the GIF, I initially wanted to go back to 1984. Atlas only has gubernatorial election results for all of these states back to 1990; the first election for Mississippi in the GIF is the 1987 gubernatorial race and 1988 for North Carolina, but all others start off at 1990.

Why no hopes for SC?  Are you conceding that Haley will likely be reelected or has Sheheen staked out a position you don't care for on some issue?
