I really cannot fathom anybody preferring Italian food to French food.  I suspect that such people have never really had much exposure to French food.

Generally speaking the further south in Europe you go, the worse the place.  This is especially true on the Italian peninsula.  France narrowly beats N.Italy and destroys S.Italy.

To be fair some people like a lot of starch - pasta, pizza - but I just don't.  I prefer fat and meat.

Very tough choice. If forced to choose, probably France since I know the language.

I'm telling you, if you put your salad on my piece of driftwood and I'm going to throw a huge chunk of pork on it.  Then who is going to look stupid?

I guess France for reasons of emotional and ancestral attachment, and because it's still generally a cool country. But Italy definitely one of the best countries in Europe, with the coolest people, an awesome language, some of the most beautiful places in the world and awesome food.

Yes, there are some meaty-steaky dished in Italian cuisine, certainly.  However, French food is considerably more 'in that style'.

Bruschetta leaves me cold..

Do Republicans still hate the French for opposing the invasion of Iraq? (yes, I'm aware they disliked them before that as well, but the hatred of the French reached new absurd levels in 2003-05). Wonder if that's why so few have chosen that option.

Not really sure which one to prefer. Great food, weather, interesting history in both countries. Horrible football teams. Both have messed up politics, though France not nearly as much as Italy.

I love Italian food, and I find Italian history/culture more interesting than French overall.

True, but given the snobbery which you might find in Paris, it might be better not to know the language than to know a form of it upon which many people will look with contempt.

I highly doubt that Iraq has a major influence on this poll. Still, I find it amusing that RogueBeaver is the only Republican to vote for France. Tongue

Woaaaaaaah, republicans really dislike France!

Francophobia has been a constant in American conservatism since the days of Hamilton.

Anyway, France is actually leading now, 27-26.

France gets my vote, though I do have a preference for Italian food.

This.
