Eventually Boehner will go, either make way for someone else, be booted from the Speakership by his own party, or tossed out by a Democratic majority.  Who will be the next Speaker?

If Republicans boot Boehner, I feel like McCarthy might try to supersede Cantor. Whether or not that actually happens is another question.

I hope McCarthy takes the position, better than Cantor. However I feel like Cantor will dive for it immediately anyway.

Cantor. McCarthy is my favorite for the position.

If Boehner steps down, which I strongly doubt, McCarthy is my call, and the odds for that are pretty high (Cantor is the face man, McCarthy the brains behind the throne - and it's interesting that that dump called Bakersfield, has had such a distinguished run of House Reps (the prior Rep, Thomas,  generally acknowledged to be the smartest man in the House when he was there, despite his dyspeptic tendencies). The Pubs have a lock on the House. They are not going to lose it, prior to 2022, and so scratch all the Dem names. Unless of course something unusual happens. But right now, the wind is at the Pubs tail, and not a headwind at its nose, sort of like a plane flying from west to east, rather than the reverse, given the direction the planet revolves.

Either McCarthy or as an outside possibility, Peter Roskam.

Have any of the people who voted DWS actually heard her speaking voice? She can't possibly be the next speaker!

Nancy Pelosi. The Republican Party is too divided to all go with Boehner again or even Cantor and since they'll lose a good number of seats next year or possibly even their majority, it would be hard for any House GOP leader to get that 218. Democrats on the other hand only have to deal with about ten Congressmen in there who are Bluedogs.

Hoyer is too conservative for the next Democratic majority.

Kind of baffled by the Kevin McCarthy love in this thread. He's proven to be completely incompetent at his current job. The Farm Bill fiasco? The failure of Boehner's Plan B during the fiscal cliff? That laundry list debt ceiling proposal they couldn't even get to the floor? The man has shown himself to be quite bad at judging the mood of the House Republican Conference and equally bad at getting them to do what leadership wants.

It'll either be Cantor or Jeb Hensarling.

If it's a Republican- Louie Gohmert or Darrell Issa

If It's a Democrat- Steve Israel,Chris Van Hollen or Pelosi.

Speaker Louie Gohmert would result in the House majority being lost the next election.

Cantor for the GOP. In the unlikely event the Dems retake the house next year, it will be either Becerra or Wasserman Schultz. Hopefully the former.
