Colorado voters have rejected a $1 billion income tax increase for school funding.

Amendment 66, voted down Tuesday night, would have created wholesale changes for how Colorado funds public education — from expanded preschool to more money for K-12 schools with high numbers of at-risk students. With 79 percent of precincts reporting, the measure had lost with 66.1 percent voting “no” to 33.8 percent voting “yes.”

Amazing news for a bunch of good people. Despite the unions enlisting millions of dollars of outside money to thrash the people in the campaign, the people instead delivered a counter-thrashing to those overpaid unions!

Maybe they'll use the 25% tax on recreational pot for the schools.

Maybe for once, we could have teachers encouraging their students to smoke pot. Imagine that Tongue.

I guess I must have a different definition of draconian.

An increase in the tax rate from 4.63% to 5% for income under 75k and a further increase to 5.9% on every dollar above 75k is probably distasteful but it seems a little boy who cried wolf when we start using the term draconian here. Unless the article posted by the advocate of the term isn't telling the whole story. Which if it didn't I would imagine the above poster would have found a story that did.

The fact that a lot of this money would have went to charter schools and the Walton family put monetary support behind the pro side makes me question if this was totally pro-union.

Unless krazen posts otherwise, I'll assume he's of the opinion that any tax increase is draconian.  If he does post otherwise, I would like him to state what level of increase would not be draconian, but don't expect him to.

In the style of the title of this thread.

It's been a year since California voters voted for the Hitler like Prop. 30.

Even if this tax were distributed evenly, this would be less than half a percent of the average Coloradoans income.

do you even know what draconian means
