The fallacy in this statement is that the Republicans place a massive amount of emphasis on idealogical purity, whereas Democrats place very little depending on where you come from. So while yes, many of us will complain about Cuomo, Booker, and Carper, but no one is demanding Mark Pryor, Mary Landrieu, John Barrow, and the like move to the left or initiating primary challenges against them.

Cochran is teabagged in the primary, Taylor runs for Senate, D+1.

Let's not forget this is Mississippi.  Tea Party or no Tea Party, Republicans will keep the seat - especially in a midterm year.

Obama got 44%. Taylor could get the extra 6/7%, mostly just from his district alone.

But how much damage would it do to the national party message to have a Democrat running and possibly winning by bashing Obamacare?

Not much worse than when Joe Manchin shot the Cap and Trade bill...he also ran on repealing the "bad parts" of Obamacare.

I see his point, he has no chance running a democrat in Mississippi's most republican district. I don't know how good of a republican he would be, but for Mississippi, he would probably have to be Jim Matheson on steroids. And I don't think he would be able to win statewide as a democrat unless he practically is a republican.

He should pull an Artur Davis and run for Congress in Virginia as a Republican.

His career is done, same with that Parker Griffin fellow

I don't like him either way, but it's about time that he stops pretending to be a Democrat.  I don't throw around the term "DINO" loosely, but this guy voted to impeach Clinton.   HP no matter what party he is now, and I'm glad that he's finished politically.

If Taylor says he's a Democrat and chooses to run as a Democrat, then the Democrats should not look a gift horse in the mouth.  Taylor is not much of a NATIONAL Democrat, but he voted for the Democrat for Speaker and voted with the Democrats to organize the House.  At the time of his defeat he may have been the most conservative Democrat in Congress, but he was also to the left of the most liberal Republican; that's how ideological Congress has become.  A few more Democrats like Taylor is the difference between the Democrats having a House majority and not having one.

If Taylor goes through with his plan and runs as a Republican, he'll be smooshed as a poser.  Taylor, himself, knows that the Republican Caucus has always been more regimented and ideological.  He also knows that since the mid-1990s, the track record of conservative Southern Democrats switching parties and getting re-elected is a bit spotty.  Today, he'd be remembered for spurning overtures to become a Republican when the Republicans needed him.  The Republicans don't need Gene Taylor now, and he's going to find that out.

This isn't the 90's. Dixiecrats won't survive Republican primaries.

I would prefer him running as a democrat for the MS senate seat if Hood won't run for this office!

Bobby Bright would be an interesting candidate for Alabama governorship. If GOP continues sucking, I think that even Taylor can get a comeback. He wouldn't be safe, but as swing vote in House, he could be influential.
