HP, but a very interesting fellow. Apparently he hated Ayn Rand on a personal level because she upset his wife.

My understanding is that Rand tried to force him to divorce her because she was a Christian.

I hadn't heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me.

The story I heard was that the Rothbards were at a dinner party and she decided a fun party game would be to go around the table and have everyone deny the resurrection.

Interesting. Not surprising, since the Rand I know and love was frankly a total b*tch. I always liked Rothbard's wife, for some reason. I know it is wrong and irrational to judge people by pictures alone, but they seemed like a very lovely couple.

I wouldn't be surprised if both, or some combination of the two, were true.

Interesting piece by Rothbard on life inside of Rand's "collective."

His foreign policy and religious views (at least going by some posts in favour of creationism) are quite far from Objectivist views.

What exactly is the Objectivist view on foreign policy?

Generally quite hawkish. Ayn Rand argued that the US had the moral right (tho' not the duty) to invade the USSR  and was critical of opponents of the Vietnam War. Modern-day Objectivists also advocate aggressive policies against Iran in the War on Terror.

Interesting. I guess that would make similar to an Objectivist, although I consider myself as anti-government and anti-religion as Ayn Rand.

I have found a way to fit the general principles of Objectivism within a Christian context while still being coherent. I am not a full on Objectivist, and I find large chunks of the philosophy to be based around Rand's personal whims. I still hold her in high regards as a thinker, none the less.

For example, I have found that Jesus's sacrifice on the cross was an act of the "rational self interest" Rand loved so much. I can elaborate if you are interested in this, but I admit it really isn't a fully developed worldview and I am frequently tweaking it as I gain more and more life experience.
