"Heart of Gold" was Neil Young's only solo #1 single

If that was his only song to make it into Billboard Magazine's weekly "Hot 100" songs, then he is, by that illustrious publication's definition, a One Hit Wonder.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.  Jimi Hendrix is also a One Hit Wonder and I really dig his sound.

Here's a list of other One Hit Wonders from the 70s that you might enjoy.

I agree with Gramps.

Lyrically a lot of his songs were good, but most of his singing and musical choices were like nails on chalkboard.

Not quite so "dismal."

As a solo artist, he had 9 top 100 hits and 3 top 40 hits with Billboard's "hot 100."

In terms of albums, by my quick count, 37 of Young's solo and band albums have made it to the top 40 on the "Billboard 200" charts, with one album, "Harvest," hitting number 1.

And his album with Crazy Horse, "Rust Never Sleeps," was voted album of the year in Rolling Stone in 1979.

Two of the songs he wrote for "Buffalo Springfield" made it to the Billboard top 100 too.

He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

Cool if people don't like his stuff.  But he was hardly a rock nobody.

We used to cover quite a number of Neil Young and CSNY songs back in the 1980s. "Love the one you're with" is still one of my all time favourites (though I just realised it was actually written by Steven Stills).

Yes is another "one hit wonder"

so was Merle Haggard according to that list. I'm sure that's not right.

here's a couple of Young's songs that I like:

I'd never heard the second song before, shua; thanks for posting.  The version of the first one you posted comes from the Live at Massey Hall solo album of '71, which was really a great concert.  As I've said, Young by himself on stage has always sounded much better to me than when he is on an album with all the studio production.

Great musician. He's also a fellow rail enthusiast.
