Yup. My mother is one of those "AIDS was a punishment from god" people, though.

My parents, who are incidentally both atheist/agnostic liberals, oppose ssm and so do I so there's really nothing to discuss. On virtually all other social issues, they would be classified as extreme liberals.
Why, exactly?

They both support it, I'm pretty certain, so I wouldn't need to, er, come out in support. Not that I ever discuss politics with my parents anyway.

Option 3, but it's not necessarily abnormal (except for this forum), and I do support civil unions.  They do know that.

My parents obviously support SSM and we have had plenty of occasions to discuss about it (and confirm the fact that we agree), considering the issue has been debated in France throughout the past 6 months.

Just out of morbid curiousity, does this line of thinking extend to other diseases? Syphilis? Smallpox? Black death? Polio?

Iranian background. Gay rights are a taboo topic in the Iranian side of the family.
But politics and social issues in particular are not something I like to discuss with my parents. My mother is one of those "OMG Republicans are RACIST and anyone who votes GOP must also be a racist too" types and there's no point reasoning with her on political issues. Thankfully, my Dad is the opposite and extremely politically alert but discussing social issues is something I feel uncomfortable doing.
On the other hand, my German grandmother is very conservative (she holds a staunch belief that anyone who does not vote for a Christian Conservative candidate must be a communist), and from what I've discussed with her I think she actually supports SSM. Weird eh?

Yes, and fortunately we all support it in the first place. My father takes a latent Catholic stance on things from time to time, but this is not one of those things.

Well they support it too so it's really a non-issue. So, for that matter, does my 78 year old grandmother.

Nooooooooooooooo, I hate getting into political debates with them.

My dad's a moderate-Republican, but other than gun rights doesn't care much about social issues. As a small business owner, it's all about the economy. I assume he personally opposes, but politically is okay with it. He's slightly Libertarian on a lot of issues.

My mom, oh brother, is one of those "I oppose gay rights, but I have gay friends, so I'm not homophobic" people. She openly talks of homsexuality and gay marriage as "unnatural" and a "sin".

I'm haven't come out to them yet, and i don't think I ever will. My mom and I actually hate each other, so I guess i'm disowning them at 24. It sucks, but hey what can ya do?

How upsetting.

Well, they both came to the wedding, but only one of them has fully come around.

Yeah, they know, but my mom supports gay marriage and my dad doesn't seem to care about it one way or the other, so it's not a big deal. On the other hand, I avoid talking with either of them about abortion...
