What are the notable differences between the Liberals and Labor at this point, and why might a person choose one over the other?

It's in the early-to-mid 1960's that the two parties are closer than they've ever been, and closer they'll ever be again.  The Liberals are still more centrist, though, and it's usually reflected by a tougher defense policy (though there's some overlap between them on certain foreign policy issues, as Scoop Jackson, for example, is definitely to the right of Stuart Symington and Jacob Javits in that area).  The Liberals are also generally more business-friendly, and the tax rates that they support are usually lower than those of Labor, though still higher than those advocated by the Torries.  It's also similar with levels of social welfare spending, the minimum wage, etc.
