I've always pictured the typical libertarian as an upper-middle class white guy in his late fifties.

I've always pictured him as a mid-20s nerd, recently graduated from a good university with a degree in either engineering or computer science, and with a huge salary at a job with very little security.  He lives with his overweight girlfriend, sort of, when they're not fighting, but he doesn't respect her.  Nor she him.  They have sex 3.7 times per week, on average, which satisfies his urges, but mostly he's busy with his video games and other electronics projects.  He smokes a great deal of weed but knows to quit ten days before they do the drug testing at his company for insurance purposes.  He has a huge, modern house with a swimming pool that he's either renting or buying, but it has no furniture other than his awesome electronics system, replete with sound and video and gaming ability, a respectable collection of guns, and lots of comfy lawn furniture.  Not because he can't afford furniture, but because he has little interest in filling the rooms in his house.  He had a dog for a while, but gave it away when he realized that he had to actually take it outside once in a while or it'd shit on his carpet.  He throws one hell of a party.  It's always impromptu, and even though there's no furniture to sit on, the guests come because he has a huge pool in his back yard and he doesn't mind if you want to smoke crack in his house and bang your girlfriend on his lawn furniture.

That plus job security (and changing a couple of details, like the girlfriends' weight) is basically where I want to be 10 years from now, so...

In answer to the question, yeah, the younger you are, the likelier you are to change your opinions. Myself included (I know my stance on environmental issues has changed within the last year pretty radically), but also others; I kind of doubt his current political persona is RP2012's absolutely final one. And that's perfectly OK, that's healthy.

Maybe Vosem might change after all, and get a public sector job and play for his own team.
