Some vague answer like "I've decided I don't need it."

And consider it was kind of an emergency purchase, if I had more time I could've done what opebo suggested. I could probably get a dress shirt for like $8 at Saver's, but K-Mart is much closer.

Mind you Inks, I bet you also consider it stupid I packed my normal clothes in a backpack and changed in the bathroom after the interview.

Oh, so deceiving them without actually lying.  Except, you decided you needed it before buying it.  Very Christ-like!

Part of the reason I decided I could return it so easily is because this is a super ghetto K-Mart staffed by underpaid unmotivated staff who rarely care at all about their jobs and just do everything mechanically and unenthusiastically. Hence I knew whoever was at the desk when I was returning it wouldn't ask me.

And as I noted above if I had more time, I could've just gone to a thrift store as opebo suggested.

OK Inks, what if I go ahead and make an online donation to my church in the value of the shirt right now? Then that'd be more Christ-like.

It's a fairly negligible cost anyway, I spent far more in admission, drinks and records at the show I was at last night.

The Catholic church stopped doing indulgences a few hundred years ago...

So....what do you propose I do then? By the way I have read there's a pretty high rate of returns at stores for large TVs right after the Super Bowl, and I think the reason is obvious...

That said though, I know that we just don't think the same way, since you probably also consider it "incredibly stupid" to bring my normal clothes in a backpack and change in the bathroom after the interview.

Just buy the shirt.  I'm sure there's going to be some time in your life you'll need a dress shirt.

I wouldn't have changed out of the clothes after the interview, but I know people who change in and out of dress clothes for interviews.  If I was already at work, I'd just keep wearing it that day; it wouldn't be the end of the world, but what you did wasn't that abnormal.

But it is abnormal to buy a shirt and return it like that.

Yes, buying TVs like that is unethical too... what's your point?
