Yes, it's possible that we won't be seeing conventions held as late as September anymore:

He's right. And legislate away the barrier between primary and GE money. One pool.

This is a good idea, though "late June" is maybe a bit excessive.  Both conventions in July makes a lot of sense, though.

It's the Olympics stupid! Neither party's want there conventions to clash with Olympics; the reason why you have had the nominating conventions in late August and early September over the last two cycles, was because the Beijing Olympics, kick-off August 6, finished August 22 2008 and this year London, July 27 through August 10. Neither party want's there coverage minimized. The Rio Olympics are scheduled to be held from August 5 through August 21; so Republicans could host there convention in mid to late July and the Dems from either August 22 or August 29, take your pick.

That sounds like a rather bad deal for the Republicans.  I'd imagine they'd want either both before the Olympics or both after.  GOP before and Dems after allows the Olympics to overrun Convention coverage to the GOP and give the Dems an unopposoed timeslot months closer to the election.

Yet that's how it was often done before 2008.....the challenger party going before the Olympics, and the incumbent party going after.....often with a full month between the conventions.  Heck, look at 1992.  The Democratic convention was mid-July and the GOP convention in mid-August.

The other alternative, if not having the GOP convention before the Olympics, then have it on August 22 and Dems a week later, but Dems finish up on September 1; the fact that up to 1992 at least, you had the challenger's party going in mid July, the incumbent's party in Mid till late August, but then you have hurricane season ratcheting up in late August, early September. Tell the Brazilians to move the Olympics back into July, I'm sure they will accommodate both party's convention scheduling arrangements....not!

*bump*

Priebus also wants to move the convention earlier:

They know this will allow the Democrats to set the narrative at the time people are actually starting pay attention, in August/September, right?

The problem is the lull between end of primaries and conventions. Better solution would be to start primay season in March, but that isnt going to happen. Now the lull will be between cons and debates but with more tv ads

Maybe they're trying to avoid hurricane season.

Not a fan of RINO Rove, but this is just common sense. Why spend the whole summer without having access to general election funds?

...and of course the right to use the time and money to disseminate the Orwellian propaganda while coordinating it with 'fraternal' media.

The most successful election for the Republicans since 2004 was the election of 2010, when they successfully downplayed their agenda. The ones who failed were those like Buck, Paladino,  and Miller who showed themselves fanatics or who like Christine "I am not a witch" O'Donnell showed themselves utterly incompetent. By 2012 Republicans had no room for gains, and outside of ultra-safe States they could not convince more Americans of the need for going deeper into a reactionary agenda.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0212/72505.html

Hit hard and bad with incompetence -- and you lose. The GOP problem isn't that people don't know what the GOP stands for. More than half of us know what the message is and do not like it.

Good idea, but when the opportunity arises eliminate the barrier between primary and GE funds. One pool, as I said in November.

I think both conventions are held too late already. So I'd say go for it in regards to both parties.

If the RNC moves the convention earlier in the summer, the DNC might follow them:
