Florida's lieutenant governor, Jennifer Carroll, has just resigned over over connections with a North Florida scandal over racketeering through Internet cafes. She's probably not guilty of anything herself or she would have already been arrested, but a lot of North Florida politicians close to her were caught up in it and she sponsored a bill in the house to legalize those Internet cafes. She's also been in other scandals in the past few years, such as when it was uncovered in 2011 that she had gotten Duval minority tax benefits for her company that was actually a county over. It's a shame, she was an articulate and interesting figure. This probably won't cause Scott election problems; unless there is more to this then is apparent now, Scott should be completely unscathed.

Next thing you know, it's going to come out that the Florida governor was fined $1.7 billion for fraud.

Oh, wait.

Now that would be a BIG story. Thankfully it never happened.

From what I heard earlier, it was legal gambling with the proceeds supposedly going to veterans groups, but really it was just lining the pockets of assholes.  Assholes that are friends and associates of the Lt Gov.

Quasi-legal; they're going to try to ban them this session, but right now they exist in a semi-legal gray area of the law, which is why some people (like State Rep. Jennifer Carroll) previously introduced legislation to make them fully legal. Wonder why she'd do that...

Wait, people still use Internet cafes?

We have computer access at the public libraries, but I've never heard of an Internet cafe where I live.

No, you've never mentioned this before.  Huh  Tell us once more.

It's north Florida.  Those who do have the internet at home do so through dial-up connections provided by AOL.

They generally go to the less embarrassing parts of the state, and over the last decade or so have been going to Raleigh and Charlotte instead.

So any part of the state that disagrees with you politically is "embarrassing"?  So the gangs/drugs/crime in Miami is OK because it votes Dem?

His BUSINESS was fined that much, not him. Its a lot like the Jennifer Carroll thing in that its only indirect involvement. At most he is guilty of fostering a work environment that led to fraud.
