Prez16 crunches some numbers on the home state job approval ratings of various potential 2016 candidates on the Democratic side (they say they'll do the GOP side next week):
http://www.prez16.com/2013/02/approval-ratings-for-prospective.htmlThese are mostly polls averaged over the last year, though for states like Montana, the polling is sparse, and so the averaging goes much further back. The numbers are for job approval in their home state for everyone but Biden and Clinton. For those two, the numbers instead indicate *favorability* ratings from national polls:
Cuomo job approval in NY: 65/26% for +39%
Klobuchar job approval in MN: 61/29% for +32%
Warner job approval in VA: 54/26% for +28%
Gillibrand job approval in NY: 53/26% for +27%
Schweitzer job approval in MT: 57/32% for +25%
Patrick job approval in MA: 52/35% for +17%
O'Malley job approval in MD: 53/39% for +14%
Clinton national favorability: 61/30% for +31%
Biden national favorability: 45/44% for +1%
Cuomo has the strongest "crossover appeal" within his home state. His numbers are:
Average NET approval with Democrats: +56%
Average NET approval with Republicans: +35%
Average NET approval with independents: +45%
A whopping +35% with the opposing party, far better than anyone else on the list. But his +56% among Democrats is actually the weakest of anyone on the list.
