This thread again?!? Tongue

Anyway, I stand for HHH (and LBJ beforehand).

I know that's going to upset a few people here, but I have a serious issue with the late 1960s "new left" movement. Their cause was certainly a just one and the massive mobilization against the Vietnam War was a great thing. However, those guy ended up acting as a left-wing Tea Party, ie utopian radicals who, in the name of ideological purity, turned against an administration that was advancing their cause on nearly every aspect, and eventually generated a massive movement of fear among the "silent majority". Not only did they cause the Democrats' defeat and the rise of Nixon, but more deeply the whole conservative backlash of the 70s-80s is the result of this.

I stick with the LBJ administration who, despite made tragically wrong decisions in Vietnam (which Humphrey eventually distanced himself from, anyway), was made of fundamentally progressive men who had a bright vision for this country - as well as the political talent to make it reality. Long life to the Great Society.
