Just like Ben, I too could not resist. So here goes.

Presiden Andrew Cuomo 2016!

And, like his dad, he can give a barn burner of a speech. I don't understand the Nixon comparisons. Is it because of his refusal to give national interviews or something?

I want to understand, specifically, why so many people here hate him... say he's not a real Democrat... say they will deserve to lose if he's the nominee... etc.

I'm not a big Cuomo fan. He seems too paranoid/secretive, with a messy personal life, and his past in HUD. I think Hillary should become the next President. But I don't think he's absolutely terrible, some people on here seem to act like he's the Antichrist or something.

They hate him because he's a fiscal centrist and is rather popular for that reason. Not left-wing enough, you see.

Eh, I can't see Cuomo being a good general election candidate, but maybe that's just me.

I'm a big fan of Cuomo. Fiscally center, socially liberal.

Perfect candidate for me.

He's good for NYS, probably a perfect fit for his aggressive personality.  But his personality won't be welcomed in Iowa or SC.

I'm not sure why non-New Yorkers would like him.  He does have a Nixonian-vibe.

I think Presidents tend to be "smooth, cool, and friendly" and I think Cuomo's NYC accent will get in the way.

I think Cuomo will be lucky to be Senator someday, but he's better as Governor right now.

He will run for Prez for the personal experience, but he won't be successful against Warner or Hillary.

No thank you. I'll vote Republican if he's nominated.

I support him following his terrific leadership during and after the Hurricane. His comments about the urgent need for infrastructure investment and tackling climate change were also pretty great.

"Big" Joe Biden and Clinton are still my first choices though, as I suspect is true of most Democrats.

I didn't know you liked union-busting and austerity.

He'd win the primary in a Romney-esque fashion. No Democrat outside of New York would actually want him.

Union-busting, austerity measures, and general sleaziness? No thanks.

I haven't really been offended by him from what I know about his record as Governor so far. But I readily admit that my familiarity with him is still pretty limited.

He's going to need to learn how to speak properly if he wants to run for President.

Still not over his "shuck and jive" comments from 2008. He's Mario's kid- what makes him stand out other than that?

I'd vote for him if none of my favored candidates in the GOP primary make it (Christie, Paul, Huntsman, Daniels, Sandoval) and he does from the Democrats.

That. Plus, the guy undercut his fellow Democrats during redistricting and has an unfortunate habit of badmouthing blacks.

He has already earned the enmity of many in the grassroots and as we witnessed in 2008 a great last name and the ability to raise millions don't matter much if the base doesn't trust you. Gay marriage alone won't cut it, especially since O' Malley did it too.

I really soured on Cuomo for a while due to his openness to fracking and insistence on pushing through an anti-transit, bloated, and not even necessary Tappan Zee replacement.

However, he has walked back the fracking, which shows he's at least willing to listen to pressure from the left, and his comments about the need for infrastructure and AGW mitigation post-Sandy have assuaged some of my concerns.

I do think he's Nixonian (or, possibly, Johnsonian) in his dedication to applying private pressure and secret methods to "getting things done" rather than open, democratic best practices, and that's something I'm really conflicted about.  It's bad, but might it sadly be necessary given the utter gridlock we face all around us?

As for the union-busting... that actually doesn't bother me all that much.  I've seen the anti-environment stances a lot of unions have taken, I've seen the tolls that pension obligations and work rules are taking on the already overstretched MTA, and well I think that getting our environmental and infrastructure house in order is frankly more important than accepting all of our union demands.  I am a big fan of EFCA and other measures to bolster the power of private-sector unions, which really have gotten shafted the past few decades, but I also recognize that asking public-sector unions to take a bit of a haircut is an unavoidable necessity in this day and age.

One month ago, I was as anti-Cuomo as can be.  Now... I'm warming up to him.  Doesn't mean I'm a supporter just yet, but I am willing to give him another look.

This is precisely how I've been feeling about him. I continue to vehemently dislike his personal style, but lately that just seems to matter less.

He'll clearly be the favorite if Hillary doesn't run but, unlike Hillary, he might be beatable.

Let's hope so anyway. I've never liked the guy. He couldn't shine his father's shoes.

I don't think abrasive New Yorker is a good fit for our relentless media cycle.
