To be honest with you other than the blackmail issue and setting an example for his subordinates I didn't really have a problem with Patreaus' behavior.  That was between him and his wife.  I have no idea what kind of marriage they have.  Obviously if Patreaus was going to be in a position to punish people for affairs he himself should not be engaged in one.

What is really getting to me about this whole thing is how when you pull back the curtain it appears the upper echelons of power in the military and intelligence world are populated by reckless horndogs.  One guy?  Sure fine.  But at last count we have three people who have been to various degrees inappropriate with married women.  I just want to know when they find time to do their jobs?  Everyone was throwing low level grunts in the Secret Service under the bus.  And now come to find out unseemly behavior is par for the course at the very top.

The Atlantic's Conor Friedersdorf talks to an anonymous "official familiar with the investigation", who claims that the supposed "20,000-30,000 pages" of emails between Jill Kelley and Gen. Allen is inaccurate, that they had extensive email conversations, but not thousands of pages worth of them, and that some of the correspondence was of "of a flirtatious nature; some were of an affectionate nature", but not necessarily indicative of an affair, as there's no evidence that they've ever been alone in the same room together:
