My favorite part is his insistence that belief in God is important whether God exists or not because belief in God prevents revolution and societal upheaval.  I'm not sure if he's intentionally cribbing from Gramsci, but it's pretty great.

[Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.]

The especially wonderful part is that, if he is indeed cribbing from Gramsci, Gramsci--if I'm remembering him correctly, which I may not be, so feel free to disabuse me if I'm wrong--actually has many more nice things (not 'nicer' things overall, but a higher concentration of vaguely nice things) to say about religion than most Marxist theorists of his time who aren't Walter Benjamin.
