theoretically the Mods only have the power vested in them through the centralized Terms of Service.

what needs to be done is EVERY moderator action should be justified with specific reference to the ToS and justified thereby.

Excellent idea!  And said justification should be posted publicly for all to see.  We need transparency and openness, and an end to the arbitrary secret executions.

Between that and democratically elected moderators, we could have a livable system one day.

I support boards' rights as a lesser evil to central administration. However, I would prefer threads' rights and even posts' rights as the ultimate end.
