Yes yes, the economy is going to collapse and Romney will win California. Congrats, GOP.

Don't know about "collapse," and don't believe Romney will win California, which is one the road to collapse (with its fellow travelers, Illinois and Maryland).

Missed you CARL.  After several weeks of mildly decent economic news, there finally was some bad news for you post, since you never post the good, only the bad.

For instance, from the same link as you posted:

Jobless Claims in U.S. Unchanged Last Week at One-Month High

By Lorraine Woellert - Aug 30, 2012

Jobless claims were little changed at 374,000 in the week ended Aug. 25, matching the upwardly revised figure from the prior week, the Labor Department reported today in Washington. The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, climbed to a six-week high.

To be quite fair, Maryland is doing much better than California and Illinois. Largely because it's next to D.C.

Maryland is actually disadvantaged compared to northern Virginia. A long time ago, suburban Maryland decided that they didn't want the main freeways, Interstate 270 coming from Montgomery county, and Interstate 95 coming from Baltimore, to be extended down into D.C. and break up those communities. Virginia, on the other hand, extended its freeways, Interstate 95/395 and Interstate 66 right into D.C.

Here's a map of the area with the Interstates highlighted in red:

You could say Maryland is on "Team (Jane) Jacobs" while Virginia is on "Team (Robert) Moses." The greater density of Interstates on the Virginia side makes the city seem "closer" to Virginia than Maryland, even though that's not physically true. Additionally, the presence of Reagan National and Dulles airports on the Virginia side privilege Virginia.

All of this means that faster growth is occuring on the northern Virginia side of the border than Maryland. Which is bad for Maryland, although it may be good for Democrats...

In the short term Maryland has disproportionately benefited from federal government spending.

However, the steps taken in Maryland are even more stupid than those in  California, and will result in disaster when federal taxpayer money is reduced fr Maryland.

We're screwed as a nation if most voters decide being likeable is more important than doing a good job and having a record that shows America improving, not declining.

Romney is not perfect, but we know he has executive experience on par with the level possessed by Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan in 1992 and 1980 respectively. We already know what Obama can do and it's simply not good enough. These are the two choices. Neither is perfect, but I think it's clear that Romney is the one.

Reagan had double the experience Romney has and Clinton had triple.

Oh, ok. Here I thought Romney was worth millions from a successful career as a business executive. I guess anybody can go out and make hundreds of millions of dollars without being an effective executive.

Reagan would be the first to say that executive management is very similar regardless of the entity being managed.

You're not going to win an election by selling your candidate as the lesser of two evils.
