I was becoming worried after one week where Mittens didn't insult anyone.

Mitt Romney bills himself as an ardent friend of Israel running against President Barack Obama who hasn't visited the American ally since taking the oath of office, but Romney's friendship only extends so far.

At a fundraiser today in Chicago — barely a week after visiting the Holy Land — Romney took a shot at the Israeli Kibbutz movement, a product of the early socialist zionist movement and integral to the story of the founding of the State of Israel.

“It’s individuals and their entrepreneurship which have driven America," Romney said. "What America is not a collective where we all work in a Kibbutz or we all in some little entity, instead it’s individuals pursuing their dreams and building successful enterprises which employ others and they become inspired as they see what has happened in the place they work and go off and start their own enterprises.”

Paradoxically some of those kibbutzim have gotten rich and have spurred entrepreneurial activity, not always in that order.

The kibbutz is socialist, democratic, and communitarian. It has parallels in the Amana communities in Iowa...

Mitt Romney panders to right-wing Jews in Israel and America with the expectation that such pandering can pull over the 'Jewish' vote. by example. It will take decades more to alter the political cultures of American Jews. All that I can figure is that if Jews are becoming more 'conservative' in politics it is because of converts who grew up in a vastly-different political culture.

The problem with Republicans and Jewish voters is that there are little nuggets of things the two agree on amidst a slew of things they generally do not. It's like having a giant bowl of Lucky Charms. The hearts, stars, horseshoes, clovers and dubloons are Israel. The bland, packing material-like cereal filler is everything else. Mitt can try to waste time digging through to find all the marshmallow bits and put them all in a bowl, but if he eats them, it won't be enough to make a meal out of and he'll probably get diabetes.
