Hopefully another sign that he'll run as a Democrat against Scott in 2014.

In the Republican primaries for local office going on right now candidates are using Crist as a boogyman as much or more as President Obama. Any goodwill he might have left with Republicans here has rapidly dried up.

Because you clearly live in Florida and clearly have evidence to back your claim up.

Crist needs to come out of the closet in more ways than one, starting with declaring himself a Democrat.

What Torie said. Nelson's a principled and honourable man, quite the opposite for Crist.

What a fall from grace...I remember when Charlie Crist was a rising star of the Republican center; so much so that he was considered a contender for VP in 2008. Then he lost a Senate primary and pulled a Lieberman. Now, Charlie Crist is the poster boy for sour grapes.

He deservedly got embarrassed on election night 2010 and now he knows that his only chance at a come back is through the Democratic Party and "America's Most Hated Governor".

All this because he threw a hissy fit over the 2010 Senate Primary.

Ridiculous.

Eh, Dereich does live in Jacksonville... I could see some North Florida candidates doing that. Not the majority, but a pretty significant chunk.

As to the main point, Charlie shall return! Smiley Crist 2014!

I'd rather have an actual Democrat run in 2014.

Try to find an actual Democrat that could win a statewide election in Florida who's not currently a US Senator or Bob Graham.

Don't really see him running statewide right after his recent defeat; needs to get back in Congress first. Plus, Boyd may be too conservative to appeal to South Florida (voted against the Affordable Health Care for America Act, the stimulus bill, and voted for the Iraq War. I like him, but I don't think Broward/Palm Beach/Miami-Dade do.

Against Rick "Most Hated Governor in America" Scott? The whole DPFL is an option.

Allen Boyd

Bob Buckhorn, mayor of Tampa
Buddy Dyer, mayor of Orlando
both could possibly win statewide

Edit: Oh and I don't think Crist 'hosted' the fundraiser, John Morgan hosted it. Crist just attended.

Name recognition. Dyer, Buckhorn, Pam Iorio, Jack Seiler, Alvin Brown; these guys are competent good politicians with no statewide name recognition whatsoever. There are some local guys who are really great (I'm thinking Keith Fitzgerald, Rick Kriseman, and Ken Welch specifically), but they're concentrating on a US House seat and (fingers crossed) beating Bill Foster next year (and you've got name recognition issues there too). Nan Rich has name recognition issues too, and doesn't seem really charismatic. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz has declared she isn't running, and probably won't leave her DNC post. Your bench is really 2 former gubernatorial candidates and a former governor, with Rod Smith being the most unknown of the three (and being a Blue Dog) and Alex Sink being a gawdawful campaigner. You're left with Charlie.

Name recognition can be increased, most of those mayors are fine.
