That's what I was confused about... he always pinged my 'dar, so not a surprise to me.

For me... it was probably Meredith Baxter or Kelly McGillis

Why can't I be gay so I could have a chance with Anderson Cooper?  Sad

Honey, I'm gay and I don't have a chance. Sad

That was a surprise for you? You straights are horrible at this.

I actually think this is a pretty big deal. The fact that one of the most popular newscasters' coming out is this completely uninteresting is great. If he were this popular 20 or maybe even 10 years ago his career could have suffered massively. Granted everyone already knew this, but still. Being gay is irrelevant and finally it's being treated that way.
if it's irrelevant then why did he have to announce it to everyone?

btw once again i am reminded of how much i hate the word 'gay.'

It wasn't really an 'announcement', as such.  He emailed Andrew Sullivan a response for an article, and Sullivan asked permission to publish it.

I kind of already knew Lemon was gay before he said he was. The way he talked it just said it for me. When he came out I was like ok. Not a big deal.

On a sidenote, I was shocked when Anderson Cooper came out though. I wasn't expecting that.

Lemon, the guy on CNN? Never knew.

I place little faith in a "gaydar". Case in point- Shepard Smith is married.

Though many people already knew Anderson Cooper was gay, many did not. After all, who considers the sexuality of the person delivering the news or hosting the talk show?

That said, even if this is no surprise, it's still very important for the cause of advancing gay rights. Changes in public opinion happen on the personal level. People who are opposed to gay marriage change their mind when they meet gay people -- if their cousin is gay, if their co-worker is gay, and yes, sometimes even if their favorite talk show host is gay.

There is still a significant portion of the population out there who think gay people are scary monsters. Every celebrity you can point to who isn't -- your Anderson Coopers, Ellen Degenereses, and your Neil Patrick Harrises, for example -- only works to broaden acceptance. Having visible, positive role models matters more than you think.

I like the way Anderson did this. Very smooth, like his silvery hair.

This. Plus if you read it, he does a great job explaining why.

I knew he was gay long time ago, wasn't he on a list of top rich LGBT people in 2007?

It's nice to see him come out because everybody knew that already, lol.

Check out this CNN clip with Anderson and Ryan Seacrest back in 2006.  The gay innuendo between them is so thick one could cut it with a knife.  They compare the size of their ties, Anderson talks about "Nashville taking a pounding" followed by "A massive manhunt is on the way," and ends with Seacrest making moon-eyes at Anderson.  I wonder what Nicole Richie was thinking, sitting there watching this.
