This report of Gingrich's speech last night in Illinois really has to be read in full to be believed.  Is this guy losing it?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/post/at-illinois-gop-dinner-a-gloomy-gingrich-bemoans-methodically-and-deliberately-stupid-political-system/2012/03/14/gIQAeSc6CS_blog.html

So, to recap, Gingrich's failure to attract more support in the primaries shows how corrupt the electoral system is.  Special interests have deliberately stacked the deck against reforms of the type that Gingrich favors.  And the other candidates in the race are too dumb to comprehend any of this.

Not only that, but it's irrelevant who wins elections anyway, because they can't change the corrupt system.  So we should all despair.

He wants the party to be "normal," but he doesn't understand that neither the party not the country want his definition of "normal."

He is rapidly approaching Lyndon LaRouche territory.

Those two flavor of the month surges really reignited his bloated ego. He got in this thing to sell books but for a month or two he really thought that the country had woken up to the reality of what a transformative tiger-blood fueled idea-warlock he was. Now, like a junkie chasing that high he can never get again, he is lurching around rambling and begging for a fix.

There's a lot of truth to what he's saying. But of course he himself is part of the problem he describes...

If Gingrich becomes a Buddy Roemer-esque figure after all this, all the insanity of the 2012 GOP primaries will be worth it.

Wow, the idea of Newt Gingrich as Lyndon LaRouche.

Really?

I would never have predicted that. Ron Paul, sure. But Newt?

I'm really not understanding where he's coming from wrt ideas.

I've waited since I was in 4th grade and have always admired his ideas whether I agree or disagree. I'm supporting Romney.

I thought the same thing.  I mean... he's right.  He's just not doing anything to fix it.
