Huffington Post dug up an article where he admitted, "I was basically pro-choice all my life, until I rand for Congress," going on to say it was both looking at the science and religion that changed his view.  Now, it's not a huge deal for him, and I believe he's 100% pro-life, but it blows a big hole in his ability to claim that Romney's conversion isn't sincere.

I don't understand why Romney gets so much heat for his conversion, when Santorum hasn't been consistently pro-life either. Santorum arguably was much more liberal than Romney was when he was younger too.

Uh - reading the article.

He expresses his opposition to funding the UN Population control fund, on the ground that it provides public funding for abortion worldwide.

He expresses the need to provide funding for alternatives to abortion.

Are you really claiming this is a moderate position? He says that the government has to come on the side of unborn children - over the wants + needs of the mother.

This is a terrible article.

At least Santorum is consistent ever since he's in elected office, unlike certain fellow.

Jesus, if someone told me just four months ago I'll defend Santorum...

There's a big difference between a 55 year old governor changing his mind as his preparing to mount a presidential campaign, and a 30 year old running for office the first time sitting down and fleshing out his positions on the issues.

Romney's change became an asset, if anything Santorum's change became a liability. That's a good determiner for judging motives...

Inks, we have been over this. Huffington just uncovered a newer quote.

Does anyone actually question Santorum's record/views since being elected? The issue here isn't changing one's mind; it's about flip flopping multiple times for political reasons.

Fun fact: Pat Toomey campaigned for Congress in 1998. He has been unquestionably Pro Life since then. It's called a genuine change of heart.

I agree, if anything this just makes him look better to the primary voters looking for the most conservatist candidate ever. Which is probably why the Romney campaign leaked it quietly and isn't making a big deal about it. (If the Romney campaign didn't know about this, they're either incompetent or spending their money incorrectly.)

My thought has already been expressed I see. Still it is a bit surprising, given Santorum's upbringing and current passions. I must say I was under the impression that Santorum was basically a centrist pragmatist when he first got elected. That impression changed sometime after he became more high profile in the Senate.

No.  But it's hypocritical for Santorum supporters to question Romney's views.

Uh...no. Romney has a history of changing his mind several times for political advantages; Santorum is unquestionably a fighter on one side of the abortion debate regardless of political ramifications.

But I have a feeling why Inks' is doing this all of the sudden. $$$ talks, baby.
