and focus exclusively on downballot races.  Obama is going to win and will probably win big.  Why waste time trying to get him as many electoral votes as possible when 270 is all that you need?  Its not like you get anything extra by winning 450 electoral votes.

If Obama wins reelection and Republicans control both Houses of Congress, what's the point?  It will just be another four years of caving and forget about ever ending the Bush tax cuts.

Democrats should get Obama to campaign heavily for Senate candidates in Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, and Massachussetts and campaign for House candidates in New York, California, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois New Hampshire, etc.

Democrats should also ask Obama for campaign money for their campaigns.  What does he need $1 billion for when he is already over 270 electoral votes?

Are you deliberately asking us to take his re-election for granted, in hopes that by doing so he will lose?   It's no secret to anyone here that you want him gone.

He wont lose.  Almost all indicators have him winning.  Once a candidate is at 270 electoral votes, he doesnt need anymore help.  Wasting time on Obama in October of 2008 cost Democrats at least 10 House seats that could have been won with more money and support.  Obama getting an extra 50 electoral votes when he is already winning isnt going to help anyone.

How about Obama spending more time in battleground states that has competive US Senate Races.
States like AZ(Flake-R vs Carmona-D),FL(Nelson-D vs Mack-R),MO(McCaskill-D vs Akin-R),NV(Heller-R vs Berkley-D),NM(Heinrich-D vs Wilson-R),OH(Brown-D vs Mandel-R),VA(Kaine-D vs Allen-R) and WI(Baldwin-D vs Neumann-R).
States like MI and PA- Democratic US Senate incumbents Stabenow-MI and Casey-PA are strongly favored to their US Senate races and Obama-D is likely to carry those states in the general election matchup against Romney-R.
States like MT and ND- Obama is going to lose by a high single digit margin, Highly competitive US Senate Race MT(Tester-D vs Rehberg-R) and ND(Heitkamp-D vs Berg-R).
MA(Brown-R vs Warren-D).
Looking at the US Senate, Democrats lose NE,ND,and MT. Democrats will be in a Tossup race in holding onto MO,VA,and FL-Obama-D carrying those states will help Democratic US Senate nominees in those states to guaranteed victory.  Democrats will hold onto WI,NM,and OH.  Democrats will pickup MA and NV.

I think this is a terrible idea for the Democrats. Even assuming President Obama is re-elected regardless, I think affecting the margin at the top of the ticket will affect the results lower on the ticket enough that it doesn't make sense to ignore the presidential election. Only nerds like us will pay more attention to congressional races than the presidential one. nkpatel's idea was much better.

Naturally, I hope you guys put this strategy into effect Tongue

This race is anything but guaranteed for Obama.  I'd rate it lean-Obama, but that's about it.  If Santorum becomes the nominee and it becomes clear by the end of the campaign that he will lose big, then Obama's resources can be relegated to other races.

Because they aren't independent events. If Obama runs a strong campaign, the economy is improving, Obama is able to re-capture the message of hope he communicated so effectively in 2008, and either Rick Santorum or Mitt Romney is his opponent, Obama's coat-tails will help down-ballot Democrats. If, for example, Obama is running against Santorum, Scott Brown is probably gone and Dean Heller is in big trouble. A number of Democratic incumbents are home free too. If Obama's up against Romney, depressed Tea Party and Evangelical enthusiasm will doom a lot of Republicans in down-ballot races, and make it a lot easier for Democratic senators and congressmen to get re-elected.
