no, but I am having a hard time dealing with the fact that with all the elected members within the GOP clubhouse, the only ones with the balls to run out of the dugout and take the 2012 field was this piss poor group of Loonies, Trolls & Whores.

this is a very typical pattern for vs.-incumbent elections.

My grandfather is just like jmscf. He claims that if the Republicans "keep up" like they are, the tea party is going to leave them. We've had so many discussions about how stupid they would be if they did that to usher in an era of liberal dominance. Some days he agrees, other days he says something you have to stick to your guns.

The problem with the tea party is they aren't a party. They've always existed - they are just emboldened these days for whatever reason. They formed to oppose tax increases that never happened, they lost senate races for republicans in 2010. The only difference is they are loud now and driving sane voices out of the GOP which makes them think their views are more common than they actually are. They could split off, but I highly doubt their brand is a growing believe in America today.

This. The Tea Party is really just a repackaging of the Christian Right from 2004. Don't get me wrong, it started out as a Ron Paul-ish thing but then Fox News got their hands on it.
