Not on abortion from what I can tell, and I doubt on gay marriage

South Dakota is a standard libertarian-leaning state, which means I imagine it would vote for medical marijuana. Abortion is divisive issue in South Dakota, but generally the state is pro-life (lots of libertarians feel this way too) and I do not think that any state would legalize gay marriage (Washington, Massachussetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Oregon would be most likely in my view - and we already know what happened in Oregon.)

Rhode Island had a bill to legalize gay marriage, I dunno what happened to it.

Big difference between SD and ND is the fact that ND is the U.S's biggest (by a long way) Spring Wheat grower, which causes ND to be dependent on farm subsidies etc. and is why it is more enthusiastic about voting Democratic in Congressional elections than SD.

Fargo isn't really that different from Sioux Falls, in fact the first time I visited Sioux Falls I thought it was just like Fargo. It's also similarly sized if you add West Fargo (since Sioux Falls doesn't have any real suburbs). In fact Fargo/West Fargo/Moorhead is actually larger than Sioux Falls although you can't really include Moorhead as its in Minnesota.

Rapid City is a bigger difference, ND doesn't have anywhere as partisan GOP as it that's anywhere near the size of it.

Sioux Falls is a fast-growing city, an emerging metro if you will. I believe it's probably much more economically conservative but also much more socially liberal than the rest of the Dakotas.
ND had the smallest population growth of any state in the 1990s, SD grew at a healthy rate - but SD without the Sioux Falls region grew only slightly more than ND.

That's true, but current it's not majorly different from Fargo.

Btw, there isn't really a "Sioux Falls region", it's just the city. Even a couple miles outside of the city and you're just as much in cow and podunk town territory than you are in the northwest part of the state.

Minnehaha then, although still, except for maybe Brandon, Minnehaha county outside of Sioux Falls is just like your typical SD sparsely populated farming territory. I once took a weird route to get into the city because of where my friend lives, and I passed through a town which from what I saw was about the same size of a city block and consisted of a few houses, a bar/liquor store and a gas station. This was only about 3 miles away from the city limits.
