I'm certainly in favor of having some people in the race who aren't corporate warmongers. We need at least a little variety. I probably agree with him more than I do most of the GOP, but I cannot vote for him based on a few issues of strong disagreement.

I hope his campaign helps educate the population on the corporatist warmongering going on so we move forward towards rejecting the neoconservative movement once and for all.

I'd say his over-under is 0.56%, which is what Nader got in 2008. However, the Koch Brothers, the Texas Oilmen, and the GOP Fundraising operation will do everything they can to funnel cash to him, so he may end up being a threat to Obama in a few key states.

I'm sorry Meeker. Would you like me to delete the thread or have it merged into yours? I didn't realize you posted before me.

I really don't understand why people think that the right-wing billionaires are going to funnel money into a hopeless third-party candidate in the hopes that he might peel off a few votes in a few swing states. Wouldn't their money be more effectively spent just attacking Obama?

Encouraging, yet I have little hope of any real impact.

Well there are limits as to how much they can donate to the actual Republican nominee and all, but yeah this is probably correct. Just because he's held elected office before doesn't mean his campaign would be anywhere near serious as Bob Barr and Cynthia McKinney proved.

you do remember that they were trying to boost Nader in 2004, right?

and Americans Elect has more ties to that sort of "RWers trying to peel votes from Obama" thing than Rocky Anderson. Rocky won't make an impact unless he can get on a party with better access.

Fortunately I assume he won't have ballot access virtually anywhere (Utah?) for this stunt.

It's very much to their advantage to have a candidate attacking Obama from the left because it reduces his base. Even if Anderson gets relatively few votes, he might succeed in decreasing support for Obama among his core progressive base.

Fortunately I assume he won't have ballot access virtually anywhere (Utah?) for this stunt.

I dunno, the Koch brothers have awfully deep pockets, and reportedly they've said they're planning to raise and spend more than $200 million to defeat Obama.

I might consider him as a write-in vote if he doesn't get on the ballot here, we shall see.
