This summer, when Bachmann surged and Perry was preparing to get in, I thought he would try this move to corral people who liked her but were uneasy about her being president.  As it was, he didn't need to.  His media-fueled momentum sucked up most of her polling anyway.  But Cain's has been sturdier.  Seems the recovery room divorcer's had luck luring conservative women away from the sexual harasser but men aren't dazzled by his sparkling spite necklaces. Here, Newt shows a shrewd strategic mind, dropping a new enticement to attract those stubborn conservative men who are fans of Cain but might be more comfortable if the guy they like who takes 45 minutes to remember which one's Libya is a heartbeat away rather than in charge.  Probably an old stratagem Newt knew about from his studies of the second Roman triumvirate.

Just imagine Joseph Biden vs Herman Cain on foreign policy!  What a debate that would be!

Speaking in an interview with Newsmax magazine, in response to the prospect of a Gingrich-Cain ticket or Cain-Gingrich ticket, Gingrich said that was "a real possibility."

people, he was just being nice so not to offend Cain's remaining supporters....he obviously wouldn't openly disqualify any of the GOP candidates from the VP slot

Umm... I don't think Cain can be Gingrich's running mate or vice versa as they are from the same state.  Doesn't the running mate have to be from a different state?

you know, now that I think about it, Newt might be thinking he could get laid by simply hitting on Cain's leftovers.

I wasn't aware of that.  I thought he still lived in Georgia.

Obvious way to get support, the campaign would never pick Herman.

Didn't stop Bush/Cheney. Wink  But actually, they could both be from Georgia.  The only effect that would have would be to cause the Republican Electors from Georgia to cast either a vote for Newt as President or Herman as Vice President, since the prohibition is on an Elector casting both his votes for someone from the same State as himself.  That so far has been a sufficient deterrent to prevent risking sending the election of one or the other into the House or Senate, but if you are confident that your party will control 26 House State delegations or 51 Senators, you could select a running mate from the same party.

I would love to see a Newt/Cain ticket (or reverse). Newt's 21st Century Contract with America coupled with 9-9-9 would be great.

Besides, Georgia can now get more positive political attention.

Cheney officially changed his residence to Wyoming during the 2000 election.

Cheney officially changed his residence to Wyoming during the 2000 election.

I know, but that was purely to allow Texas electors to vote for them both. (Tho since he had previously represented Wyoming in Congress, that particular slight of hand didn't bother me in the least.) If they hadn't, then Cheney might not have ended up as Veep.  Assuming the GOP decides to make the Senate race the one to go to a Congressional vote and Jeffords votes for Leiberman, then Joe would have been Veep instead of Dick. (Note: Jeffords would have needed to actually vote for Joe, not simply abstain, a Vice-Presidential election in the Senate needs 51 Senators to vote in favor no matter how many are voting.)

Now if that were to happen, I wonder which cabinet post Cheney would have had.

EDIT: Just checked and the GOP controlled the necessary 26 State delegations in the House to decide the vote there.  So they could have been certain of having Bush win election in the House unless we ended up with a modern-day Jefferson-Burr controversy and whoever got the Presidential votes of the Texas electors ended up being a real contender in the House election.

Yes, because the Republicans need a ticket composed of a man who told his first wife he was going to divorce her when she was in hospital recovering from cancer and who divorced his second wife after having an affair with his girlfriend at the time, now his third wife, and a man who is a multiple sexual harassment perpetrator on innocent women and who threatened them they would not get a job unless they accepted his sexual advances and then later blatantly lied about it.

Yes, that is exactly  the ticket the Republicans need in 2012.
