Just thought of this. Let's assume Romney has won a Bush-'00 style primary victory against Gingrich. Isakson would be perfect. As a Georgian, he would almost certainly have endorsed Gingrich (if he hasn't already), he appeals to conservatives, he appeals to moderates, he's got legislative experience without really being so insidery, and most of all, nobody's heard of him, so he could be painted as anything.

What does the Atlas think?

He's pro-choice, so forget it.

Nope. Isakson flip-flopped on abortion rights in the 1990s, changing from being pro-choice to pro-life. Romney definitely does not want his ticket to be labelled as "multiple-choice," no matter how bad the economy gets. Otherwise, he'd be a boring, establishment pick, and maybe Romney wants that, but there are better contenders than Isakson.

Isakson is a closet moderate, and also really boring.

Are we already at the stage of the campaign where we're throwing out the names of random dudes and calling them VP candidates?
