I'm thinking of returning to fantasy politics, but there's one thing that always bugged me.  Can someone explain for me

1.How does what happens in real life become part of Atlasia and to what extent does it happen?  It seems to me that right now there's problems with Social Security, but the people on this forum act as if they're creating solutions based on the real life example of what's going on.

2.How does a measure of the policies in Atlasia measure in real life?  I mean if there's a program designed to cost 50 million dollars and it's to help provide health care for urban schoolchildren, then how does it reflect?  With there not being an actual real life example, how do we know it works?  Is it just because someone says it does?

3. Could someone explain Atlaswiki to me?  It seems as if I'm missing a huge chunk of the equation because the info on here is not on the forum, so I have to do more digging to find out what I need to know.

Thank you much for your time in answering and explaining to me.

This is the job of the Game Moderator.  He decides how the programs play out, and reports on their results.  The thread is stickied.

1.How does what happens in real life become part of Atlasia and to what extent does it happen?  It seems to me that right now there's problems with Social Security, but the people on this forum act as if they're creating solutions based on the real life example of what's going on.

How much the Senate pays attention to real-life issues is entirely up to the individual senators.  Theoretically, our Senate could either mirror the activities of the real Senate, or could go down a completely unreal path where legislation has only some or no relevance to real issues.  For example, our Senate is currently debating an aid package for famine-ridden Niger, and a bill that deals with endangered species.  They're also currently working on various other issues involving how the fantasy government itself works.

As has already been mentioned, the Game Moderator (GM) is responsible for designing scenarios and situations that help steer government policy, or show how particular legislation has had an effect.

John Ford is the current GM, and he works through the 'Daily Planet' thread (stickied at the top of this board), which reports these fictional scenarios as news reports.

3. Could someone explain Atlaswiki to me?  It seems as if I'm missing a huge chunk of the equation because the info on here is not on the forum, so I have to do more digging to find out what I need to know.

The Atlas Wiki was a mini-Wikipedia reference guide that many forumites contributed to.  It contained pretty much everything to do with fantasy politics, including all legislation, the Constitution, personal profiles of most Atlasian citizens, history, etc.

The site was hosted by NixonNow, who took it offline about a month ago.  From what he's said, he's currently in the process of transfering all the data to somebody else (possibly Dave, who has mentioned hosting a Wiki on this site).

thanks Joe, that was really informative.

Could you also give me some information on the parties?

I know the LP has disappated (although I don't doubt that it could be reformed into a new party)
I guess since it's gone the CU has taken in more people..
And what of the newer parties, the Light Party and the Monster Raving Loonatic Party?

Here's a run down of the major parties in Atlasia...

Independent Liberal Party: Leftwing on social issues; center right on economics.

Farmer Labor Party: Leftwing on economic issues; no position on social issues.

Constitutional Union Party: Center right libertarian on economics & social.

Freedom Party: Christian Democrat or populist party.  Small but active.

Atlasian Light Party: Extremely leftwing on economics, social, and foreign policy.

Communist: Two person party (migrendel and A18).

Atlasian Monster Raving Loony Party: Joke party that seems to have temporarily destroyed the credibility of its presidential & vice presidential candidates.  Only member now is ILikeVerin.

Atlasian Conservative Alliance: Where most of the Republicans went after the AFRNC ended... basically "Republicans" with a new name (as far as I can tell).

You can also be Independent, of course.

Well that's partially true, but we are more Libertarian then the real life Republican Party.

M&C, depending on wether you indentify more with Libertarian-Conservatism like me or Libertarian-Liberalism, the ACA could be a very good place for you.  I am a Libertarian-Conservative who is fustrated by the real life GOP's populist slide over the past decade since Reagan left office, but I fit right in the ACA.

Or you could say "rightwing on social and economic issues".

I keep meaning to make a chart of the political spectrum where each party fits in but never get around to it.

I heard these parties are pretty close anyways, but the CU is conservative on social issues?  I thought it was closer to the LP than the ILP.  Also, I thought the ILP was moderate on economics.  Was there a switch or something?

Our main tenants are giving new members of the party cake and torte reform Smiley

We are also considering adopting 'one muffin, one vote' Wink

Anyway, we're basically a joke party that exists because it's fun to be in a party.  Plus, you can adopt totally pointless positions on pointless issues and run around espousing your pointless positions annoying the heck out of people Wink

How could you say no? Cheesy

No the Constitutional Union Party is libertarian on most issues including social ones we are just more moderate in our libertarian position. What we do allow for though is a great about of independence to our members. I disagree with my party on some of their platform but I get no gruff about it. This independence is actually built into the UP bylaws, which give alot of power to the individual and to the regional organizations. It is a party that includes people from me and Ken on over to MAS.
