Put aside Civil Rights ... and then this guy is an unmitigated disaster. Option 4!

Personally I rather like that segregation is no longer acceptable in this country.

Eh, it's still pervasive, if not as blatant as it used to be.

Discrimination is certainly present, of course, but overt segregation is, if not gone, certainly societally unacceptable.

Many communities are still very segregated though. Compare much of Oakland to the Oakland Hills.

This. Though delivering one of the fatal blows to the Democrats' New Deal wing is something I will happily credit him for.

That's an incredibly major "put aside" there.  Segregation and discrimination against minorities was the biggest blot on the U.S. before LBJ.  One can make a very strong argument that LBJ's achievements in the civil rights sphere outweigh Vietnam and his other shortcomings.  What you said is a little like saying: "Boy, Hitler really did a bang up job on Germany.  His only two mistakes were launching WWII and conducting the Holocaust."

Oh come on man World War II and the Holocaust weren't that bad.
